Creating the artwork
I haven't painted with my gold pen in a while, mainly because the last time I did, it exploded all over my table, laptop, laptop stand and arm. So this time, I was a little less aggressive with the 'shaking' part of the process. Starting off on one of my favourite papers, a very heavy handmade cotton I decided to do a colour wash all over it. I created two VERY similar shades of teal and applied those to the paper. I then of course had to add a few drops of water to create those lovely blooms.
Once that was all dry, I created some loose 'river' lines down the page and outlined each pencil line with a gold liner and then went back over them again to create some thickness and organic lumps and bumps. Once I had my background and my outlined structure it was time to fill in. Using a combination of patterns and switching between three pens: gold, white and black, I created a shiny abstract design.
